about

Its not trad but its not folk either, a mix of rip-roaring delicately played instrumental compositions taking inspiration from all over
Europe, together with drones, electronic sound scapes and spectacular vocals. Mossy Nolan's music has its roots in the folk and
traditional realms for sure, but has the scope to reach a wider audience.

The quality and execution of his self-titled debut album received lavish praise from well-respected corners of the music press,
and topped album of 2012 polls. The album is comprised of elegantly crafted songs and tunes both original and traditional played
on Bouzouki and Mandolin. Mossy is joined on the album by Colm McGowan, who's edgy style of guitar playing both acoustic and
electronic adds a dynamic characteristic throughout the record and compliments the material beautifully.

"If we’re talking about being firmly rooted between the traditional and the modern, then no-one embodies that more perfectly than Mossy Nolan" Nialler9

He has appeared in session on "Radio Activity" and "The Small Hours" with Donal Dineen several times, and has played with established artists such as David Kitt as well as being part of the recording and touring band of one another one of Ireland's most exciting acts Lisa O’Neill.

It is as a live performer Mossy really shows his true talent, captivating audiences with his older than his years voice and warm charming onstage persona.

"bursting with both charm and integrity" 2UIBestow

"this is an excellent debut album by Mossy Nolan, with a fine mixture of songs and tunes both old and new, played and sung with great skill and passion" Peter Crowley (FATEA)

Track Name: Letterfrack, your letterback
1. Letterfrack, your letter back/happy at home
The diamond hill rests against the sky
and disperses from a boatless pier,
It's cast in blue this autumn afternoon
and reaching far away from me.

The time it took to climb its height
left a burning inside my legs,
on top I find the colours rich
looking down on the land and the sea.

In the dining room the ageing twos
they order in their habits old,
they've loved so long and they still love now
embrace the time that's passed between.

Finding quiet and resting time
in a house tried against the wind,
It's two days here then back again
with someone who excites my mind

***happy at home***
Track Name: Spencer the Rover
2. Spencer the Rover

This tune was composed by Spencer the Rover,
who was as valiant a man who ever left home.
well he was much reduced which caused great confusion, and that was the reason he went on the road.

In Yorkshire near Rotheram he had been on his rambles, and being weary of traveling he sat down to rest. At the foot of the mountain there's a clear running fountain, and with bread and cold water himself did refresh.

And with the night fast approaching to the woods he resorted, with the woodbine and the ivy his bed for to make. Well he dreamt about sighing lamenting and crying, go home to your family and this rambling forsake.

Now his children sit around him with the prittle prattling stories, the prittle prattling stories to while cares away.now he’s as happy as those have thousands of riches, contented he’ll remain and never ramble away.
Track Name: The Wild Mountain Thyme
4. The wild mountain thyme

Oh the summertime is coming, and the trees are sweetly blooming and the wild mountain thyme blows around the blooming heather

Will ya go lassie go
and we’ll all go together,
to pluck wild mountain thyme
all around the bloomin’ heather.
Will ya go lassie go

I will build my love a bower, near the pure chrystal fountain and the wild mountain thyme blows around the blooming heather

Chorus

I will roam the mountain side, and the dark hills oh so dreary and return to all my friends, and the lass i love the dearly

Chrous

Oh my true love and i, we are bound to be together
where the wild mountain thyme, blows around the blooming heather
Track Name: Dark Horse on the Wind
6. Dark Horse on the Wind

All those who died for liberty, Have heard the eagle scream, All the ones who died for liberty, Have died but for a dream.

Oh rise, rise, rise, Dark horse on the wind
For in no nation on the earth
More broken hearts you'll find.

The flames leaped high, reached to the sky,And seared a nation’s soul. In the ashes of our broken dreams, We’ve lost sight of our goal

O rise, rise, rise, Dark horse on the wind
And help our hearts seek Róisín
Our soul again to find

Now charlatans wear dead men’s shoes, Aye and rattle dead men’s bones. ‘Ere the dust has settled on their tombs, They’ve sold the very stones

O rise, rise, rise, Dark horse on the wind
For in no nation on the earth
More Pharisees you’ll find

In grief and hate our motherland,Her dragon’s
teeth has sown, Now the warriors spring from
the earth, To maim and kill their own

O rise, rise, rise, Dark horse on the wind
For the one-eyed Balor still reigns king
In our nation of the blind.
Track Name: Tunnel Tigers
Hares run free on the Wicklow mountains,
Wild geese fly and the foxes play,
Sporting Wicklow boys are working,
Driving a tunnel through the London clay.

Up with the shields and jack it! Ram it!
Drive a tunnel through the London clay.

Lough Derg trout grow fat and lazy,
Salmon sport in Cushla bay;
And fishermen from Connemara
Drive a tunnel through the London clay.

Chorus

The curragh rots on the Achill Island,
Tourists walk on the Newport quay;
The Mayo boys have all gone roving,
Digging a tunnel through the London clay.

Chorus

The Carlow girls are fine and handsome,
All decked out so neat and gay;
The Carlow boys don't come to court 'em
They're driving a tunnel through the London clay.

Chorus

Down in the dark are the tunnel tigers
Far from the sun and the light of day;
Down in the land that the sea once buried,
Driving a tunnel through the London clay.

Chorus x2
Track Name: Man Midland
Doors open wide, pressure grows
routes have formed around his nose
and slowly they make thier way
to his cheeks and his cold cold eyes

Good morning frank
oh, whats good about it?
Whats good about it?

His eyes cause a screech, up from the door
deepens a crack beaten in the tiled floor
and slowly i make my way
to a cave and convenience store

Good afternoon frank
oh, whats good about it?
Whats good about it?

Nervous girl is she, frank’s little wife
writhing hands in fingerless gloves
shes standing there still, frozen to the bone
with dogs scuttling around, around her feet

Good afternoon frank
oh, whats good about it?
whats good about it?
